Useful for diagnosing MS specially in patients with equivocal clinical or radiological findings. Isoelectic focusing is the gold standard technique with high sensitivity and specificity for diagnosing MS.
People should consider the diagnosis of MS if they have one or more of these symptoms like vision loss in one or both eyes, acute paralysis in the legs or along one side of the body, acute numbness and tingling in a limb, imbalance and double vision
This test requires a blood sample. A tourniquet (elastic) band is placed tightly on the upper arm. The patient is then asked to make a fist. This helps in the build-up of blood filling the veins. The skin is disinfected before needle insertion and the blood sample is collected in vacutainer.

Based on the presence or absence of autoantibodies against each of the antigen (Positive or Negative Result) along with the intensity and class of each antibody, the overall result can be determined.
