FISH for ERBB2(HER2/neu) Amplification/Breast cancer & Gastric cancer
Amplification or overexpression of Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 gene (ERBB2) is seen in 15-20% of patients with breast cancer and is associated with shortened disease free & overall survival. Accurate assessment of Her2 status is critically important in the selection of correct therapy such as Trastuzumab (Herceptin) / Pertuzumab. FISH technique is specially useful in Her2 equivocal tumors.
The patient should carry the FFPE tissue or block of the effected Breast and the Her2neuIHC report
The test is recommended when patient is Diagnosed with Breast Cancer
The test is performed with the Next generation sequencing technique
There is no risk associated with the test as biopsy will be taken by the trained surgeon in the hospital under anasthesia
Positive or Negative for amplification as detected by the probe XL ERBB2 (HER2/NEU).
